Writer’s Corner: A Modern Approach to Wedding Planning

Born and bred in Leicester, Meera Majithia has honed her skills over many interesting and diverse roles. She has tried her hand at news journalism, feature writing, wedding and event planning, broadcasting, presenting, and even match-making. Meera has developed a strong repertoire of talents and abilities.

Now, she has combined some of these skills, namely her writing and wedding planning, into writing her first published book. Adding author to her list of roles now, Meera wrote her new book Planned to Perfection, A Modern Approach to Wedding Planning for The Indian & Interfaith Bride, after seeing great success in her career as a planner for modern Indian and western weddings. “It’s been on my bucket list since I was a child; I’ve always wanted to write a book,” said Meera. “I just didn’t know what that book would be about!”

After discussing the topic with others in the wedding industry, she discovered that there was a gap in the market for a modern approach to planning and guidance, for interfaith and contemporary Indian and western marriages. “As a planner, it’s hard to connect with many brides as there are only a certain number of events I can take on a year. I knew that there must be so many people out there that could benefit from a certain level of positivity, and to hear that wedding planning isn’t so scary at all. It doesn’t have to be stressful, you don’t have to spend hundreds of thousands of pounds. I just want people to be able to relax and realise that it should be such a fun experience and that’s the idea of the book.”

Ultimately, Meera’s goal for the book is for brides and grooms planning their big day to get the most out of the experience, whilst not forgetting the important things. “My biggest tip I give to people planning to get married is to understand why they’re getting married,” Said Meera. “So many people fantasise about their favourite venues and the food and all of those other beautiful visual elements. But actually deep down, I think it’s important to remember why you’re doing this. Usually it’s because you’re starting this amazing journey with the love of your life.”
